TE David Thomas signed for 1.176 million. Thomas is entering his fifth NFL season. He was acquired prior to the start of the 2009 season from the New England Patriots and proved to be a valuable asset down the stretch filling in for Jeremy Shockey. Buccaneer DE visits Saints
Buccaneers free agent DE Jimmy Wilkerson is slated to visit with the Saints next week according to Jason LaCanfora.

Wilkerson, 29 is recovering from ACL surgery and is unlikely to be re-signed with the Buccaneers committed to a youth movement and building a new franchise through the draft. The free agent was a reclamation project who signed him as a free agent from Kansas City. In the two years with the Bucs he was a solid and productive player recording 69 tackles, 11 sacks and 3 forced fumbles.
Wilkerson, if signed, would join recently signed free agent Alex Brown on the Saints defensive line. Brown recently signed a 2 year deal worth a reported 5.5 million dollars.
Saints looking for QB help
With free agent QB Mark Brunell visiting the Jets and only Chase Daniels on the roster behind Drew Brees, the Saints started the hunt for a veteran quarterback for the #2 spot.

Josh McCown who was the #2 quarterback on the Carolina Panthers roster last year. The journeyman career backup has played for Arizona, Detroit, Oakland as well as Carolina. His best year was 2004 when he threw for 2500 yards 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Patrick Ramsey is the other quarterback the Saints are reportedly working out. Ramsey, 31, sat out the 2009 regular season and has logged stays in Washington, Denver and with the New York Jets. Ramsey’s best season was in 2003 with the Redskins when he tossed 14 scores and nearly 2200 yards. Patrick played his college ball at Tulane so it would be a homecoming for Ramsey.
Whomever the Saints select to back up Brees should be prepared for a slow season. Mark Brunell, Bress’ back up last season only attempted 30 passes in 2009.
Alex Brown a Saint
[picappgallerysingle id="6589322"]
The New Orleans Saints announced this afternoon that they have agreed to terms with former Chicago Bears DE Alex Brown. The 8 year NFL grad was headed to Tampa Bay today after meeting with the Saints front office yesterday.
A 6’3″ 260 pound DE who is consistent, not spectacular playing the position makes sense for the Saints as a spot starter and rotational player.
Brown was released from Chicago as an annouced moved to reduce the financial burden of signing former Carolina Panter DE Julius Peppers. I’m not buying that for 1 single minute. This was a smart move for the Saints, with a small amount of money invested.
