Peter Principle for Saints?

Peter King has rolled out his first power rankings and the New Orleans Saints are ranked in the top 5 teams. At number 5. King has ranked Green Bay #1, San Diego at 2, Baltimore third and Indianapolis number 4 ahead of New Orleans. While I do believe a repeat will be very difficult for the Saints in 2010, but wait until you read who King thinks will win the division.

I hope you’re sitting down……………

King writes,

“5. New Orleans. The Saints face a daunting task: Only four times in the last 30 seasons has a team repeated as Super Bowl champ (San Francisco in 1990, Dallas in 1994, Denver in 1999 and New England in 2005). The Saints will surely score enough to win again. The question is whether defensive coordinator Gregg Williams can tread water in 2010, because I think that’s all he’s going to have to do. New Orleans doesn’t have to be in the top 10 in defense — the Bills allowed 15 fewer points last year, the 49ers 60 — but Williams, again, will have to find a way to get pressure with middling front-seven talent and make sure the Saints don’t have to score in the 30s every week to win.

I think Carolina will be better, and Atlanta might be, so this is not a mail-it-in division race for New Orleans. But when the Saints had to pick it up last year, they did, in a big way. Will complacency bite them? That’s something you can never tell at this point of the offseason, but they’re young at enough important positions to make another Super Bowl run.”

Carolina is going to be better than the Saints? Peter shouldn’t drink so early in the afternoon. Green Bay ranked above the Saints? Last time I checked the Saints were Super Bowl champs and should be ranked #1 until a team proves otherwise.

New Orleans Saints OT Jon Stinchcomb told Nola.com that he had spots hernia surgery on Friday. Stinchcomb’s surgery is considered to be a “typical” hernia repair and it should take about 3 weeks to heal fully.

Stinchcomb told Nola.com, “It’s disappointing not to be able to work out with the rest of the team, especially heading into the first OTA’s. But I’m hoping for a speedy recovery. And the good news is that it’s not the middle of the season, and I’m not going to miss any games or anything like that”.

S Darren Sharper reportedly turned down more money from Jacksonville in order to return to the New Orleans Saints. NFL Network reporter, Jason LaCanfora reported that Sharper will make 1.5 million this season and has a package of undisclosed incentives where he can earn another 1 million this season.

After Sharper re-signed with the Saints yesterday, it was reported that the soft free agent market for Sharper was justified as he had microfracture surgery to his knee.

This is an affordable contract to the Saints and a perfect for for Sharper to make a run at back to back Super Bowls.
